Access Now links the primary care patients receive in safety net clinics to more advanced specialty care. Access Now’s 800+ physician volunteers ensure that no patient goes without specialty care for want of a willing provider. Care Coordinators match patient needs to specialty volunteers, work intimately with patients as they navigate the healthcare system, provide translation services when needed, secure appointments, and ensure the successful transfer of medical records. The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) was initiated in 1992 by the Virginia General Assembly and its Joint Commission on Health Care to promote and fund innovative public-private partnerships that increase access to primary care for Virginia's uninsured and medically underserved.
